Before Starting to Work

  1. Free speed check

    • The speed, measured at a pressure of 6.3 bars, must not be higher than the rated speed marked on the die grinder.

    • Remove the grinding equipment before doing the free speed check.

    • Do free speed checks daily and especially after a long period of no use.

    • Make sure that the speed marking on the tool is readable.

    • Return the tool for repair when it is overspeeding.

  2. Maximum speed check

    • Make sure that the stated maximum speed of the burr or drum is higher than or equal to the speed marked on the die grinder.

  3. Grinding equipment check

    • Always disconnect the air supply when changing the grinding equipment or adjusting the tool.

    • Make sure the grinding equipment is not cracked or damage in any way.

    • Make sure that the grinding equipment or drum has the correct dimensions and is attached correctly to prevent unbalanced vibrations.

    • Remove and replace damaged grinding equipment immediately.

  4. Personal protection equipment

    Make sure the operators use:

    • Eye protection, goggles or a visor.

    • Ear protection

    • Gloves

    • Steel toe-capped shoes

    • Protective clothing, such as a leather apron.

    • A helmet (for heavier applications)

    • Do not use loosely hanging clothing, hair or jewellery (risk of getting caught).

  5. Working area

Make sure that the working area is kept free from other people so that no one can get injured.

    • People nearby must wear hearing and eye protection.

    • Make sure that the ventilation and dust extraction from the premises are sufficient.

    • Make sure that it is a stand or a place available to put the tool safely.

    • Work within a sealed-off area, with protective walls if necessary. There is a risk that broken discs fly off.
