Symptom

Probable Cause

Required Action

The wrench will not advance.

  1. The couplings are not fully connected or defective.

  2. The wrench piston seals or swivel manifold seals are defective.

  3. The pump solenoid is defective.

  1. Tighten or replace the couplings.

  2. Replace the seals.

The wrench will not retract.

  1. See above.

  2. Drive pin failure.

  3. Pawl spring failure.

  4. Ratchet or drive pawl failure.

  1. See above.

  2. Replace the drive pin.

  3. Replace the pawl spring.

  4. Replace the damaged components.

The wrench will not advance but gauge shows pressure.

  1. The couplings are not fully connected or defective.

  2. The pump solenoid is defective.

  1. Tighten or replace the couplings.

  2. Replace the pump solenoid. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

The wrench operates in reverse (screw-to connect couplings only).

  1. The couplings are reversed on either the wrench, the pump, or the hose.

  2. An even number of hoses are being used in the system, reversing the direction of the oil flow.

  1. Correct the orientation of the couplings. Refer to the section Connecting the System - Screw-to-Connect Coupling.

  2. Change the number of hoses in the system to an odd number to correct the direction of the oil flow.

Wrench pressure will not build.

  1. The wrench piston seals or swivel manifold seals are defective.

  2. The pump pressure regulator valve is defective.

  3. The pump voltage is too low because of using extension cables.

  4. The pump air pressure or air flow is too low.

  5. There is a restriction in the Filter Regulator Lubricator (FRL) because of excessive moisture or dirt in the air supply.

  6. The pump's oil level is low or the filter is blocked.

  1. Replace the seals.

  2. Replace the regulator valve. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

  3. Use a shorter extension cable or increased wire section. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

  4. Refer to the product instructions for the pump for requirements.

  5. Repair or replace the FRL. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

  6. Fill the oil tank or clean the filter. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

Wrench operation is slow.

  1. The couplings are not fully connected or defective.

  2. There is a restriction in the hydraulic or pneumatic (air pump) hose.

  3. The pump's voltage, air pressure, or air flow is too low.

  4. There is a restriction in the Filter Regulator Lubricator (FRL) because of excessive moisture or dirt in the air supply.

  5. The pump's oil level is low or the filter is blocked.

  6. There is an internal leakage in the wrench or the co-axial coupling.

  7. There is an internal leakage in the pump.

  1. Tighten or replace the couplings.

  2. Replace the hose.

  3. Refer to the product instructions for the pump for requirements.

  4. Repair or replace the FRL. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

  5. Fill the oil tank or clean the filter. Refer to the product instructions for the pump.

  6. Replace the seals.

  7. Refer to the product instructions for the pump for troubleshooting.

The tool is locked on the application.

  1. The reaction pawl engagement coincided with reaching the target torque.

  2. The reaction point is not rigid.

  1. Repressurize to the target torque and hold the pressure. Push and hold the reaction pawl levers and release the pressure.

  2. Change to a rigid reaction point.

The ratchet is not taking successive strokes.

  1. The ratchet, drive pawl, or drive pawl springs are damaged.

  2. Drive pin spring failure.

  3. Drive pin failure.

  1. Replace the damaged components.

  2. Replace the spring.

  3. Replace the drive pin.

The ratchet jumps during advance stroke.

  1. The ratchet, drive pawl, or drive pawl springs are damaged.

  1. Replace the damaged components.

No reading on the pressure gauge but the wrench is operating.

  1. The pressure gauge is defective.

  1. Replace the pressure gauge.

Difficult to connect the hose to the wrench or pump.

  1. Pressure retained in the hose.

  2. The coupling is damaged.

  1. Vent pressure in the hose.

  2. Replace the coupling.

Oil is leaking from shroud.

  1. The rod seal is damaged.

  2. The internal piston seal is damaged.
