Authenticate and Setup ToolsControl

All nodes (PC or VM) must be restarted an extra time before any configuration for a new installation. ToolsControl system can malfunction if this step is missed!

Authentication

The user must activate the authentication from the Authentication tab in the Settings page, and log in before using ToolsControl. The default administrator account is admin. The admin user must choose a new password at the first time login.

Setup

Perform all necessary settings in the Setting page before putting a new ToolsControl server into operation.

  1. After restart the node, select Settings in the ToolsControl portal menu to open the Settings page.

  2. If the IP address is not assigned, select Single IP for cluster to set a fixed IP address for the ToolsControl cluster or the ToolsControl server. Select Save to save the change.

Using static IP for the ToolsControl server is required.

  3. Select Event to set the Max number of events saved in database, the default number is 10000. The Lowest event level saved in database and the Lowest event level to show notifications include Info, Warning, Error, and Critical. Users can choose which level of event to be stored in database. The default setting is Info.

  4. Select Time to set the date and time either using an NTP server or manually update. For a ToolsControl cluster, using an NTP server is strongly recommended as it brings synchronization to all the cluster servers. Users can add or delete the NTP server by inserting or removing the IP address for the NTP server in the NTP Servers section. As an alternative method, if no NTP server is available, users can select Set date and time to manually set the date and time for the system.

  5. To connect the ToolsControl to an Active Directory, go to the Settings page, select Authentication and then click on Configure to open the Edit Active Directory window. The following information is needed for the connection: Hostname, Port, Base DN, Admin User DN, and Password. Contact the IT department to get this information.
