Controllers

Controllers are almost fully handled from the Controllers page. Use the Controllers page to access the user interface of a controller, access the controller information and actions, and manage licenses for each controller.

Select to create new controllers. Select the menu and then select Controller structure to create and manage controller groups, or select Default settings to change default settings for controllers that are created from the time of the change and into the future. Changes do not affect controllers that have already been created. Default settings include units, language, time zone, and default server connections to ToolsTalk and ToolsNet.

Controllers View

The Controllers view lists all connected controllers, with or without group information. Users can also add or remove controller to a group in this view.

Enter text in the Search box to filter and find controllers. The following is searched:

  • Group names

  • Controller names

  • Port numbers

  • Software version numbers

Each controller has three sub views: Controller, Settings, and Licenses. Through the gear icon to the right of the controller pager, users can access Edit Name, Delete, and Factory Reset.

Changing the control name through Edit Name will also change the name shown inside the controller.

Select Export to CSV to export a comma-separated list of all controllers.

The Controller human machine interface (HMI) displays the normal controller user interface, which can be used to make modifications to the controller settings as on any other controller. The HMI is also required for configuring virtual stations with entries like tools, licenses, and programs.

The Settings view presents information about controller software versions, snapshots created, and port mappings.

This view consists of three subsections: Software, Snapshots, and Ports. The software sub section displays the controller’s name and current software version along with the buttons to upgrade the controller. Upgrading a controller allows the user to select newer software version from the uploaded software versions.

Users can create or delete snapshots for the current controller and the snapshots are saved in the Snapshots sub section.

In the Ports sub section, user can modify what ports the controller expose to the outside world. All controllers share the same port number range, and the port number range for each virtual station must be unique. A port number range for one virtual station must not overlap with a port number range for another virtual station.

Licenses

Licenses must be allocated to the controller before assigning licenses inside the controller HMI. The Licenses includes two subsections: Virtual station type and Virtual station features. Each subsection displays detailed information about how many licenses are in use and how many are available for the dedicated station type or the dedicated station feature, respectively. Users can modify the licenses according to planned configuration by editing the number of licenses.
