Working with Automation Rules

Automation rules are a list of rules that are stored on the controller with defined triggers and actions. These rules allow logical operations on Boolean signals available on the controller.

Rules

  • Every rule has a collection of triggers and actions.

  • A maximum of 32 rules can be added to a controller.

  • A rule can be set in active on or off states. Any added rule is set to active Off by default.

Overview

Setting

Description

Name

Enter a name for the rule with a maximum length of 32 ASCII characters.

Active

Off: When the rule is inactive, it does not trigger, and a license check is not performed.

On:When the rule is active, it reacts to the Input/Output signal changes that are based on the configured triggers and actions. The license is validated for all the virtual stations mapped in the rule and an error message is thrown.

Edit the rule

Click Edit to configure triggers and actions in a rule.

Delete the rule

After deletion, the rule is removed from the rule list. Deleting a rule does not stop ongoing actions. To stop a rule, first, it must be deactivated.

Update the rule

Updating an active rule applies the changes and restarts the rule.

Save changes to rule

Save changes to the rule by selecting Apply.

Undo the changes to rule

Undo the changes made to the rule by selecting the Undo option.

Invalid configuration

An error message if the rule does not have a valid signal or virtual station configured for either the trigger or the action.

Create a rule

Select Automation rules on the controller home page and then select the + sign. A rule is added with empty trigger and empty action. Select the apply button to add the rule. The rule is added and disabled by default.

License the rule

To license a rule for a virtual station, go to the virtual station. In Licenses, select the features, the Automation Rule and apply the license.
