Reaction Brake Troubleshooting

Symptoms

Cause(s)

Solution(s)

Brake not maintaining torque - not engaging

Tooth-to-tooth gap (gap between teeth) is set too large

Excessive wear on teeth

Adjust the height (distance) of tooth-to-tooth gap (gap between teeth)

Replace brake assembly

Unable to rotate the tool holder/vertical rod - brake will not disengage

Insufficient air pressure to disengage brake - air pressure too low

Pneumatic/electric circuit issue

Tooth-to-tooth gap (gap between teeth) is not large enough when disengaged

Debris is obstructing rotation

Check compressed air supply. Increase air pressure to meet minimum supply pressure required at clutch

Check circuit control valve and cabling for failure

Adjust the height (distance) of tooth-to-tooth gap (gap between teeth)

Clear debris from teeth

Difficult to rotate the tool holder/vertical rod - excessive resistance when rotating

Insufficient air pressure to fully disengage brake - air pressure too low

Locknut too tight

Debris within bearings

Check compressed air supply. Increase air pressure to meet minimum supply pressure required

Adjust resistance by loosening nut

Clear debris from bearings

Tool will not start (Brake related)

Sensor not set to proper distance from sensing block

Readjust sensor distance
