Viewing Certificates

To view the certificate that is currently in use, navigate to the HTTPS tab under Settings.

Before you turn on Redirect HTTP to HTTPS, make sure to validate that the certificate works. A broken certificate can prevent access to ToolsControl Portal.

This view shows:

  • Redirect HTTP to HTTPS: when turned off, it is possible to access ToolsControl Portal via HTTP. When turned on, all data that is sent between a ToolsControl Portal server and a web browser is encrypted by HTTPS. Attempts to access ToolsControl Portal via HTTP are automatically redirected to HTTPS.

  • Issued by:

The issuer of the certificate that is currently in use. This is one of the following:

    • ToolsControl Issuing CA, if the current certificate was issued by a CA that has been signed by a Root CA

    • ToolsControl Intermediate CA, if the certificate was not issued by a signed CA. A warning symbol is shown if it has not been signed by a Root CA.

    • The signer of the certificate, if a signed non-CA certificate is used.

  • Common Name (CN):

By default, this contains the host name of the first ToolsControl node.

  • Alternative Name (SAN): (SAN, Subject Alternative Names)

Any additional names that the certificate is valid for. It will always contain the IP addresses of each node, and in addition, any extra DNS names that the user added when generating the certificate.

  • Issued:

    When the certificate was issued.

  • Expires:

    When the certificate will expire.
