Screw Feeding System
System Overview
Screw Feeding System
The Screw Feeding System is hand-held or hand-guided and consists of several units that can be combined into a functional system.
The system allows to perform tightening operations with pneumatic screw feeding. The main components are the Screw Feeding Unit, the hand-heldScrew Feeding Tightening Module and the Power Focus 6000 controller.
The system can be extended with complementary components from the Atlas Copco portfolio if required. These include the ergonomic Torque Arms, weight-compensating Spring Balancers, and quality accessories, such as the ILG Positioning System, and an industrial Touch PC with user interface.
Screw Feeding Unit
The Screw Feeding Unit is used exclusively for storing, sorting, separating, and blowing screws. The Screw Feeding Unit is controlled by the Power Focus 6000 controller.
For more information, refer to the Screw Feeding Unit Product Instructions.
Screw Feeding Tightening Module
The Screw Feeding Tightening Module loads the screw and performs the tightening process. It consists of the Driving Tool and the Screw Feeding Front Part. The modules are connected together via a threaded sleeve (union nut). When delivered, the Driving Tool and the Screw Feeding Front Part are connected. If an exchange is necessary, the two modules may only be separated by Atlas Copco service technicians.
For more information, refer to the Screw Feeding Tightening Module Product Instructions.

Spring Balancer WP
The WP balancers enable the simplest positioning. The conical rope drum keeps the suspended load in suspension over the entire extension length of the rope, and makes it weight-free for the operator. The housings of the WP 05/10 balancers are made of plastic, while those of the WP 20 and WP 30 series are made of aluminum. All models (except WP 20) have a swiveling safety suspension hook.

Torque Arms
SMS T
The SMS T-series of arms are built to handle the most demanding industrial situation when you need to control the sequence and the position. The SMS T-series have two angle encoders to determine the position. The arms are delivered with balancer, encoders and encoder cables ready to be plugged into the TPS controller or connected to the ILG system.
Tool holder needs to be ordered separately. SMS T-series is equipped with balancer.
For more information on the available SMS T balancers, refer to the product page of the specific model:

SML T
The SML T-series of arms are built to handle the most demanding industrial situation when you need to control the sequence and the position. SML T-series have one linear encoder and one angle encoder to determine the position. The arms are delivered with balancer, encoders and encoder cables ready to be plugged into the TPS controller or connected to the ILG system.
For more information on the available SML T balancers, refer to the product page of the specific model:

SMC Carbon Arms
SMC carbon arms use one encoder to measure the distance the arm travels. With this arm and encoder it is possible to verify the position due to the distance the arm travels. The encoder is mounted inside the arm to safe guard that nothing can interfere with the distance measurements. The SMC POSI L arm can work in both horizontal and vertical position and thus be roof or wall mounted. The accuracy of the encoder is 0.32 mm and the arm, together with an ILG system or TPS controller control the sequence and position.
Choose the appropriate balancer for SMC arms depending on tool weight. Order the balancer kit for easy and fast assembly if the arm is roof mounted.
For more information on the available SMC balancers, refer to the product page of the specific model:

AX1 Articulated Arms
The flexibility of the AX1 articulated arm allows it to be used in a number of different configurations. It is easily adapted to suit a variety of unique applications. The AX1 articulated arm can be mounted in numerous configurations based on application requirements. For workbench applications, a workbench mounting plate is used as a base for the arm. Where additional height is needed, a workbench pedestal is available in various heights. For floor mounted applications, a floor pedestal is available in various heights. The workbench and floor mounting hardware is not included with the AX1.

Positioning Systems
ILG Positioning System
The Industrial Location Guidance (ILG) is an integrated, stand-alone error proofing system that offers high-level process security for applications ranging from simple to complex. ILG tracks the exact location of the tool relative to the fastening position, ensuring the correct fasteners are tightened to specification, in the proper sequence. Comprised of ILG software, positioning hardware and tightening controller, the system combines the functionality of a tightening system with position and process control. Typical applications for ILG include: low-volume, high-value component assembly, repairs stations, and flexible assembly cells.
The ILG offers:
Improved quality through reduction in scrapped parts and implementation of forced order operation.
Reduced job setup and programming time, resulting in reduced costs.
Increased productivity due to improved operator efficiency.
For more information on ILG, refer to the product page of the specific model:

TPS Controller
With a TPS controller you are always sure that the operator is tightening the joints in the correct sequence and the correct position. The TPS controller works together with the SML/SMS T-series positioning torque arms or the SMC POSI L/ LA torque arms and tool controller. The TPS works with digital I/O’s for OK or NOK signals to the tool controller to determine the sequence and position of the tool. If the tool is out of position it will not be able start. As soon as it is in position it will be able to start. After a correct tightening with an OK signal from the tool/controller, the operator will receive an OK signal from the TPS and is able to start in the next position.

Assembly Control Node
The Assembly Control (AC) Node industrial PC is a computer system which can cater to numerous applications, including:
An interface between the factory network and screw connection equipment
A platform to operate error checking systems with PC-based visualization
Industrial PCs are used in the industrial field, which imposes more stringent requirements in terms of protection classes, compliance with EMC directives, grounding and mechanical durability and reliability. The need for applications to be flexible – again in an industrial field – also means the architecture must be x86-compatible. Panel PCs must also run standard Windows® software and are specially designed to meet these requirements. More stringent requirements are imposed on the quality of flat-panel displays and the condition of interfaces.
